MarkMate Laser – Now Available with Two 30W Source Options

The MarkMate Laser has always given manufacturers a safe, compact, capable desktop laser marking machine without compromise. We’ve now made a significant update to the product adding a higher power source as standard, and introduced a more advanced source for greater control and options during marking.
The MarkMate Laser is now available with a choice of two 30W laser sources: a standard pulsed fibre laser and a 30W MOPA source. The standard fibre laser is fitted as default and the MOPA source is available as an upgrade at the time of order.
The Standard Option: 30W Pulsed Fibre Laser
The standard MarkMate Laser is now supplied with a 30W pulsed fibre laser, up from 20W on the previous version. This power increase offers a proven, reliable technology that handles the marking tasks most manufacturers need day to day.
Serial numbers, data matrix codes, barcodes, logos, part numbers, the standard laser can mark these cleanly and consistently on metals, coated metals, plastics and ceramics. With a repetition frequency of 40–60 kHz and a pulse width of 90–120 ns, it’s a fast, cost-effective solution for general industrial marking.
If your marking requirements are straightforward and your material range is consistent, the standard 30W fibre laser is likely all you need.
The Upgrade Option: 30W MOPA Laser Source
For more demanding applications, the 30W MOPA source offers a step up in capability.
MOPA stands for Master Oscillator Power Amplifier. For laser marking applications, this means that a you have independent control over both pulse width (2 to 500 ns) and the repetition frequency (1 to 4,000 kHz). This additional range of control unlocks the ability to mark a wider range of marking styles on a wider range of materials. Marks that a standard pulsed fibre laser cannot achieve.
The most common reasons why customers choose the MOPA option:
High-contrast black marking on stainless steel. Many industries and customers are looking to laser marking as an alternative to other marking, traditional marking methods, but contrast can sometimes be an issue. As an example, methods such as inkjet marking are capable of producing a higher contrast mark than a standard fibre laser can achieve on some materials. A MOPA source removes that limitation, delivering equally high-contrast black marks on materials such as stainless steel, whilst retaining all the other advantages of laser marking
Colour marking. By adjusting pulse parameters, a MOPA laser can produce a range of colours on certain metals, particularly stainless steel and titanium. This opens up marking possibilities that go beyond standard identification and into branding, grading, and decorative applications.
Sensitive or difficult materials. On materials where a standard pulsed laser risks damage, such as thin coatings, anodised aluminium, or composites, the finer pulse control of a MOPA source allows for cleaner, more precise marking with less heat input to the part being marked.
What else has changed?
The short answer is nothing. Both of the new source options use the same compact enclosure designed for benchtop & Desktop laser use, both are supplied with Pryor’s Traceability Software, all existing accessories are fully compatible, and all MarkMate lasers are still built in Sheffield, UK and come with a 2 year warranty
After the successful launch of the MM Laser in 2024, this update is designed to give our customers a more powerful and capable standard machine, with the option of a more flexible and capable MOPA source for difficult applications.
The laser source is selected at the time of order. If you’re unsure which is right for your application, we are happy to talk through your marking requirements and help you make the right choice.
Thinking of Moving Away from Dot Peen?
If you’re currently using dot peen marking and considering a change, the MarkMate Laser is worth a look. It produces cleaner, higher-contrast marks, operates more quietly, is generally a faster process and has lower long-term maintenance requirements. Whether the standard fibre source or the MOPA option is the better fit depends on your materials and the finish you need.
