Methods of Marking & Traceability Available

Pryor has a full range of marking and traceability equipment and will work with you to find the ideal method of marking your parts and components. The method of marking will be determined by design/customer specifications, the nature of the material being marked, its commercial value, and how, when and where the mark is going to be used later in the item's life.

Laser marking - This is the ideal solution for organisations requiring fixed or variable marking onto a range of materials. It is a high speed accurate method of marking, in which company logos and a high level of pictorial details can be reproduced on to the component. It can produce traditional 1D bar codes and 2D data matrix codes. Its marks are both manually readable and machine readable. Ideal for marking labels and ID plates, medal marking, marking of promotional gifts, electronic component marking, marking of medical instruments, implants prostheses and surgical tools, turbine blade marking, cutting tool marking, PCB marking. Marking on steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, copper, glass and wood

Indent Stamp Marking - Fast & reliable indentation methods can be used to provide automatic serialising and marking of constant alpha-numerical characters and logos.

Dot Peen Marking - Is ideal for nearly every industrial component in the aerospace, automotive, medical and general engineering industry. The dot mark arrangement makes it ideal for 2D data matrix codes. It is also used where variable codes such as date stamps, batch codes and serial number marking are required. It is useful for parts where laser marks are prohibited such as certain aerospace components. Its marks can be both manually readable and machine readable. This method is ideal for small and large quantities.

Electro-chemical etching - This is the chemical etching of components used for alpha numeric, symbols or Data Matrix marking. Often used where laser marking is prohibited within the industry and damage may be caused by dot peen marking. Generally useful for lower batch sizes. Used for marking ID plates and lables, medical instruments marking, implants prostheses and surgical tools, turbine marking, cutting tool marking. Marking on steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, copper and glass. Its marks can be both readable manually and readable by vision equipment.

Flexible solution

The Pryor sub contracting team can offer its marking and verification service at the head office in Sheffield or at the clients premises. The team has access to a wide range of equipment and portable marking methods. For example, one health authority in the Midlands wanted to mark all surgical instruments used throughout its operating theatres. This was an extra measure taken as part of a comprehensive programme to alleviate cross contamination and infection; and enables the hospital to track which instruments have been used in which theatres and for which operations. Each instrument bears its own unique inscription that can be read time and time again and also withstand the rigours of a thorough sterilisation process after each period of use. Rather than remove all the items from the hospital, Pryor was able to take portable marking equipment with them to the site and the marking was done on the hospital premises.

Full Component Traceability

More and more engineering and manufacturing organisations are recognising the value of IUID (Item Unique IDentification) and part traceability as part of their own drive towards better quality and a more sophisticated approach to the management of processes and production. Many organisations cannot always justify the financial outlay for marking and verification equipment so now they can come to Pryor to fulfill all their marking and vision requirements. Pryor has many years experience in part traceability in the automotive, aerospace and medical industry and many of these techniques can be applied equally to other areas of engineering and manufacturing.
