Powerful Software Package to Read ‘Unreadable’ Data Matrix codes.
The UI-Detective software is capable of recovering valuable data from damaged or poorly marked/printed Data Matrix codes.
The PC software is compatible with the Pryor DataMouse™ and VeriSmart™ image capture devices. Alternatively any bitmap image of the Data Matrix can be used and decoded using the UI-Detective software.
Example – This image is a badly marked dot peen mark on a cast surface. Cells on the lower right corner are missing and incorrectly placed. The entire bottom row is also missing. Several brands of reader have attempted to decode this mark without success.
The following process shows how the forensic software may be used to decode seemingly ‘unreadable’ Data Matrix marks.
Step 1. – Capture the Image using the DataMouse or VeriSmart unit. Alternatively load a bitmap image of the DataMatrix taken using any camera.
Step 2 – Input the number of modules E.g. 22x22. Then click all 4 corners of the Data Matrix.
Step 3 - Click the ‘Select Modules’ button. The UI-Detective software will then determine the cells it is certain about and outline in red the uncertain cells.
Step 4 - Use the transparency slider to help manually determine the uncertain cells.
Step 5 – The image above shows the transparency slider off – Use the mouse buttons to manually determine if the uncertain cell has a mark (left click) or no mark (right click)
Step 6. Fill in the missing L shape border and correct any incorrectly sensed cells.
The software will then attempt to decode. In this scenario the decode is successful (See the top section of the above screen shot). However, if the decode was not successful it is possible to select ‘uncertain’ cells, the software will then sequence through combinations until a valid decode is achieved. This is very useful if large sections of a DataMatrix code are missing.
