Paired male and female dies working together to produce a
readable mark in thin sheet material.
Embossing dies give a raised readable mark, debossing dies
a sunken one.
|
| In some cases, such as the embossing/debossing
of envelopes, the female die/type can be dispensed with and
a 'dummy' female made from materials such as hard nylon, rubber
or aluminium can be used. However, the results will not be as
distinct. |

Dies can be made to suit many different applications:
- Flat dies fitted to a press, produce a raised or sunken
relief on pieces of flat sheet material (i.e. nameplates,
decorative plaques, blister packaging, paper and cardboard)
- Rotary dies are both rotated to produces a raised or sunken
relief on thin walled circular components (i.e. components
such as caps, canisters and tubes)
