INTEGRATED LASER MARKING BOOSTS STANLEY'S DRIVE FOR SUCCESS

A turnkey laser marking package supplied and installed by Edward Pryor has marked some three million screwdrivers for Stanley Tools over the last 18 months since the initial launch of the company's prestigious new 'DynaGrip Pro' screwdriver range.

The supply of this state-of-the-art integrated marking system mutually complements over half a century of commercial activity between two of Sheffield's leading, world-class, manufacturers.

World leaders in the manufacture of a wide range of hand tools, Sheffield-based Stanley Tools required a dedicated laser workstation system, for the permanent marking of screwdriver blades with relevant catalogue number and tip size.

Customer requirements demanded the simultaneous marking of a variety of diameters and lengths of blade as a continuous process, with subsequent unloading and loading of purpose-designed fixturing undertaken during the marking cycle. Optimum use of equipment and target throughput could thus be achieved.

To eliminate possible stress raisers, a non-contact marking method was required, while low consumable requirements and competitive running costs were also important factors.

Stanley Tools are aware that speed to market is essential with the introduction of a new product range. Edward Pryor's design and manufacturing team achieved the demands with a complete custom-built laser marking system within an extremely tight timescale.

Edward Pryor's Machinery Sales Team Leader, Paul Bowler, summed up the project, "The success of this package reflects Pryor's ability to develop tailor-made turnkey marking solutions for the demanding applications of some of the world's leading names in manufacturing".
