When Edward Pryor's people are up and running, there's no stopping
them. Company employee, Kevin Bennett, joined 10,000 runners in
the inaugural British 10k Open Road Race in London on 22nd July.
Kevin, sponsored by the company and workforce, completed the gruelling
run through central London as part of an initiative to raise money
for the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, a charitable project which provides
disadvantaged children from the Sheffield area with the chance to
experience rural life on a working farm. Maintenance Engineer, Kevin,
raised a total of £410 and completed the run in a time of 47 minutes.
The 10km route incorporated such well-known landmarks as Trafalgar
Square and The Houses of Parliament and, in a fitting coincidence,
passed shops, banks and attractions whose signage is manufactured
by Edward Pryor's sister company, Pryorsign.
Pryor's sponsorship of Kevin is the latest example of the 150 year-old
company's ongoing commitment to a programme of community activity.
As well as advising local further education colleges on curricula
and allocating a share of company profits to local and national
charities, employees also run in the annual Sheffield Marathon,
for which the company provides its world-famous marking equipment
for the inscription of competitor's medals, with all proceeds donated
to the nominated charity.
Marketing Manager, Jayne Mezulis, explained, "Pryor's commitment
to community involvement reflects the company's willingness to acknowledge
the enormous contribution to its success made by a dedicated local
workforce. The implementation of a progressive policy of community
action also underlines the company's sense of corporate responsibility
and a determination to achieve best practice in every aspect of
its operations".
