Normal Hall Marking:
Produces a raised description with a sunken field when applied to a work piece.

Incisive Hall Marking:
Produces a “V” groove impression in the material marked, but requires less pressure to apply the mark, thereby facilitating the marking of fragile or thin material that is not suitable for normal hallmarking

Straight Punches:
Used for marking general flat items such as tags, giftware, salvers and ingots.

Cranked Punches (Swan Neck):
Used in the marking of small items in constricted areas, these punches incorporate formed bodies, hence the expression "swan necked".

Bangle punch with recessed groove
for marking bangles of varying diameter.

Bangle Punches:
Used in the marking of Bangles, and consisting of either a formed body or straight punch with a recessed groove.

Identical Assay punches, in size
A (6.0mm) and size M (0.4mm))

Sponsor Mark:
Hand or press punches used by manufacturer to place the makers initials or corporate branding logo onto jewellery items. Use of sponsor's marks on any precious metal is regulated by the UK hallmarking council, as such all designs have to be registered with one of the UK assay offices (Sheffield, Birmingham, London or Edinburgh).
