Graphite Electrodes Used in Smelting Aluminium

Graphite blocks up to 8 feet wide are used as electrodes in the smelting of aluminium. These blocks need need to be carefully monitored - making identification and traceability vital.

Pryor were approached to develop a permanent marking solution for these electrodes. Traditional marking tools, such as hand punches or dot-marking (dot-peening) systems were not suitable given the size of the graphite blocks. Therefore an alternative olution was required.

This specially designed automatic numbering head marks the graphite blocks automatically, using characters 40mm high. Powerful press machinery either side of the block force the mark deep into the material, ensuring readability throughout the life of the electrode.

Continuous Rolled Steel Plate

Manufacturing production processes often run continuously - the manufacture of steel is no exception.

Integrated into a continous steel rolling mill, this machine marks moving steel plates as they progress along the mill.

Marking is achieved by indenting using a specially engraved indexing wheel with the characters A-Z and 0-9 engraved on it's edge.
